About the farm

Vennelygaard is in the northern part of Sjælland, in an area that has some of the most beautiful nature in the region near Copenhagen

HISTORY

Vennelygaard was originally built in 1824 as a farm with four wings with thatched roofs. It had approximately 40890 acres of land (in Danish: 30 tønder land). In 1930 16 tønder lands was sold, so today it has approx. 14 tønder land including three moors.

In 1932 the farm burned down due to children’s play with fire. It was rebuilt, with three wings instead of four. The production of the farm with additional work like collecting milk from other farms in the area and bringing it to the local dairy and also delivering peat cuttings sustained a family of two grown-ups and five children. The farm had cattle, pigs, horses and chickens.

Today the farm has no animals, apart from horses on the adjoining pastures. The stables have been renovated during the latest years, including the flat on the 1. Floor that has been totally renovated. Today they are top grade isolated. On the ground floor the floors are tile clinkers with built-in heating, walls and ceilings water scrubbed. On the 1. floor there are wooden beams and light as in an atelier with excellent views. The wooden floors have been washed down with lye and the whole buildings have the most modern installations.

The main house of the farm has not yet been renovated, but plans are being made for that also, will probably happen within some years.

AREA

Vennelygaard is in the northern part of Sjælland, in an area that has some of the most beautiful nature in the region. Lake Bastrup, moors, woods and a hilly landscape. The farm is on a small, private road in a very peaceful area, with a rich wildlife. Often deer can be seen in the adjoining lands.

Although the farm is out in the country in beautiful nature the distance to the centre of Copenhagen is but 25 kilometres. Half an hour by car, bus connections every hour (line 334) to the S-Train stations in either Farum or Stenløse (S-Train lines H and H+). Among recreational facilities in the area we can mention two 18 hole golf courses, top grade swimming-baths in Farum and Værløse and indeed a wide variety of cultural and sporting facilities. You can even see the best soccer teams in Denmark play in Farum Park when FC Nordsjælland is playing at home.

If you want to visit Roskilde to the west with its famous Cathedral – the burial place of Danish royalty, the Viking Museum by the fjord and in general a charming, old Danish city – well, 30-45 minutes by car and you are there.

Nobody knows who built it, but prof. people are still trying to find out. If they do we will let you know.

You can go a bit further towards the east and bike or walk around Lake Farum, Lake Furesø and much much more – from Vennelygaard. The options are .. galore.
